As our city slowly reopens, we're also planning on reopening, and we are looking forward to serving you a delicious meal in our dining room (or patio!). A lot of planning, cleaning, and reevaluating is happening. With that, June 5th will be the last evening where we'll have our "Pay What You Can" blue plate specials. We'll still be serving our grilled cheese with tomato soup, salad and a cookie during the week from 11am-1pm.
More changes will come soon as we get closer to our reopening, we will continue to honor the promise to help our community to the dignity of a warm meal to anyone in need. Stay tuned for more updates coming soon!!
Black Sheep Team.
In response to the current pandemic, we have closed Black Sheep Diner, and opened Black Sheep Community Kitchen and Market. We are offering a hot meal to anyone in need 11-1 and 5-7, Monday-Friday (and maybe Saturday? Will update) From 11-1, our hot meal is a grilled cheese and tomato soup combo with micro salad and cookie. From 5-7, we've got the grilled cheese and a rotating blue plate special. Check back in soon for more details!
Kansas City is now staying at home in an effort to combat the spread of COVID-19. We will continue our efforts to feed as many people, for as long as we can. We thank KSHB-41 Action News for visiting us and helping us share the news of our transition: from a "curbside/carryout restaurant", to a community kitchen inspired by The Rieger, based on donations for a pay-what-you-can approach.
If you would like to help us, you can donate:
For the restaurant to be able to get food, supplies, etc, please donate through PayPal (BlackSheepKCCK stands for Black Sheep Kansas City Community Kitchen)
For our staff, who even after being laid off, has been volunteering/donating their time to keep this going, please donate through Venmo.
We thank you all, our farmily and friends for your love and support, and we look forward to continue helping you in the best way we know how during these turbulent times.
Holy chicken coop, farm-man! Black Sheep is up to something delicious! If you've seen our posts on Facebook or Instagram, and have drooled looking at the photos of our delicious food, and STILL haven't come to check us out... come on down during Kansas City Restaurant Week 2020!! Your friendly neighborhood diner is ready to serve KC a tasty meal, whether you want to join us and check our #KCRW2020 Special Menu, or try something from our regular menu, we look forward for you to taste some farm-fresh goodness. You'll taste products from Buttonwood Farms, Grand River Mushrooms, Sunny Meadows, Barham Family Farm, Thane Palmberg & Jude's Rum Cakes among others!
So come check us out! Enjoy a meal, a tasty drink, make sure to save room for dessert, bring your family, friends, or just treat yourself to a pampered "me time". Let's start 2020 supporting small, local businesses and farms, and of course, our very dear and beloved friends at the Don Bosco Center, who are this year's benefit charity for Restaurant Week.
Please note that given the small size of our restaurant, we're not taking reservations for KCRW, and you'll be able to enjoy the special restaurant week menu Monday-Saturday. On Sunday, we'll be serving our Sunday Brunch menu only. Also, as with any other restaurant participating, no substitutions or changes on the special #KCRW2020 offerings.
Isn't it wonderful when you get to try something new? When you get to go out to eat, order something that you've never had before, and love it so much that you even want to make it at home? It seems that our Sunday Brunch Shakshuka is doing exactly that for a lot of people in KC! Not only did the recipe appear in IN Kansas City, but our very own Chef Michael Foust even got to do a live demo on KCTV5!
If you haven't tried it yet, come join us! We serve brunch every Sunday from 9 am to 3 pm, and we have wonderful dishes for you to try, whether vegan, vegetarian, carnivore, carbovore, coffeevore, etc... . Of course, come try our shakshuka dish, and if you like it and would like to try it at home, you have got the recipe to follow along!
Hello Kansas City!
We're so excited today! And if you're wondering why, it's because our recipe for our Shakshuka appeared in IN Kansas City Magazine today! If you've joined us for our Sunday Brunch, you may have noticed or even tried either of our shakshuka dishes (we have a vegan option, as well as a very carnivore one which features ham, bacon and sausage). This delicious dish is definitely filling, comforting, and a great dish all year round. You can make it at home as a great breakfast for your family, and it will surely be a talking point if you bring it to your next pot-luck gathering!
So go ahead, visit your local farmer and get some delicious farm-fresh produce and make this dish at home. We know you're going to take pictures of your creation, so don't forget to tag us! We love seeing your pictures! Add the handy tag #BlackSheepKCMO so we can see and share your photos, and while you're at it, don't forget to follow us on Instagram and Facebook! See you soon!
Phew! What a wonderful day it was! We got to see so many familiar faces, and we also got to meet so many new friends on our first ever brunch!! This huge success was all thanks to you KC, we could not have done it without your love and support. We look forward to seeing you again next week, and meeting those who were unable to join us today... and their friends! It's thanks to your support that we are able to continue to support our local farmers week after week.
Don't forget to share your photos with us! We love seeing your pictures whether on Instagram or Facebook. Tag us, hashtag us... we've got the hash browns!
